I visited the exhibition “VAN GOGH – ARKEN” in december 2018.
It was an extraordinary experience of all my feelings of beauty, love, sorrow, despair, joy, sadness and pain – communicated through the paintings, drawings and the personal life of Vincent Willem van Gogh, born 30. march 1853 in Groot Zundert, Holland and died 29. july 1890 in Auvers-sur-Oise north of Paris.
Here is my experience of the exhibition of 28 paintings and 11 drawings from the collection of Kroller-Muller Museum, Otterlo, Holland.
The exhibition is arranged in 3 halls around 3 major themes:
- Van Gogh´s world
- The inner life of nature
- Mankind in nature.

First hall:
- Theme “Van Gogh´s world”
Vincent van Gogh lived in The Yellow House in Arles and painted in the surroundings here in south France from february 1888 – may 1890. In may 1889 Van Gogh was hospitalized in psychiatric hospital Saint-Paul-de-Mausule in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence north of Arles until may 1890, when he left the hospital and travelled to Auvers-sur-Oise north of Paris.

In octobre 1880 until april 1881 Vincent van Gogh studied on Academie of Art i Bruxelles.
From april 1881 until 1885 he lived, draw and painted with oil colors in Holland: Etten, Haag, Province Drethe and Nuenen.
January to march 1886 Vincent studied in Academie of Art in Antwerpen.
In march 1886 Vincent travelled to Paris to live together with his brother Theo (1857-1891) in his apartment in Rue Lepic nr. 54.

From march 1886 Van Gogh is a part of french painter Fernand Cormons (1845-1924) studio in Paris.
Vincent van Gogh continue his study in theory and practise of painter Eugène Delacroix´s color theory.

In 1887 Vincent van Gogh is inspired by fellow painters neo-impressionits Paul Signac, George Seurat and Camille Pissarro and paints at river Seinen and suburbs of Paris.
In late 1887 Vincent van Gogh is exhibitor in Restaurant de Chalet in Paris together with his artist friends Louis Anquetin, Émile Bernard and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec.
At this exhibition in Restaurant de Chalet he meet the artist Paul Gauguin (1848-1903).

Vincent van Gogh leave Paris february 1888 and traveled to Arles, where he settled to paint in the surroundings.
From september he lived permanent in “The Yellow House” with an ambition to establish a collective artist studio.

Paul Gauguin arrive to Arles in october 1888 and stay in “The Yellow House” until some days before Christmas 1888, when Paul Gauguin after a dramatic row with Vincent leave Arles and return to Paris.
Shortly after the row Vincent cut off part of his ear. Vincent is hospitalized between Christmas and New Year 1888.
Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh never met again.
From may 1889 until may 1890 Vincent van Gogh is hospitalized on the psychiatric Hospital Saint-Paul-de-Mausole in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence north of Arles.

In may 1890 Vincent van Gogh left the psychiatric Hospital Saint-Paul-de-Mausole in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence north of Arles and travelled to Auvers-sur-Oise north of Paris.
Vincent lodges at Auberge Ravoux in Auvers-sur-Oise north of Paris.
Vincent van Gogh died in Auberge Ravoux in presence of his brother Theo van Gogh the 29. july 1890 after a gunshot in his stomach/breast 2 days earlier.
