Copenhagen is an more than 1000 year old city situated close to the sea – Øresund Belt between Denmark and Sweden.
In winter season the old city and Copenhagen Inner Harbour – surrounded by parks, lakes,canals and bastions with rampart and moats in Christianshavn are extremely beautiful with blue sky, sunlight and cold air.
I will guide you on a walk from Fortress Kastellet on Østerbro Quarter in north through Copenhagen Inner Harbour to Nyhavn Canal in south.

History of Fortress Kastellet – built 1661-64 and inaugurated 28. october 1664 as a fortress with 5 bastions, ramparts and moats:
Kastellet Fortress.
Begun by King Christian 4 (King of Denmark and Norway 1588-1648) as Sct. Annae Skanse 1622-40 with 3 bastions as protection to the entrance at Copenhagen Harbour. 1661-65 Kastellet was rebuilt with 5 bastions by Holland engineur Henrik Ruse invited by King Frederik 3 (King of Denmark and Norway 1648-70). Inaugurated 28. oktober 1664.

– built 1725 to Commander of Fortress Kastellet and Fortress Copenhagen with 12 bastions to Sealand (på Sjællands siden) and 12 bastions on Christianshavn built 1620-80:

Monument over Danmarks Internationale Indsats siden 1948.
Inaugurated 5. september 2011 by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe 2 of Denmark.
The National Monument in honour of danes in international mission since 1948 – all flowers and wreaths given in love to HKH Prince Henrik (1934-2018) placed on the Monument in Fortress Kastellet to honour all danes died in international missions.
