Anna Ancher is born 1859 in Skagen as daughter of grocer- and inn owner Erik Brøndum (1820-90) and Ane Hedvig (1826-1916).
1875-78 Anne Ancher studied painting on Vilhelm Kyhn´s private drawing- and painting school for woman in Copenhagen.
In 1880 Anne Ancher married painter Michael Ancher and took up residence in Skagen – a small fishing village on “top” of Jutland at the coasts of Skagerak Sea and Kattegat Sea.
From january to June 1889 Anna Ancher visited Paris with her husband painter Michael Ancher (1851-1927) and received personal teaching by french painter Puvis de Chavannes (1824-1898).
From 1898-1913 the couple spent their winter in a villa in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen.

Anna Ancher main motives are the daily life – family, friends, woman working in their homes with children, memorable days as christening ceremony, funeral service and landscapes.
Anna Ancher painting style is unique with focus on light and color with inspiration of french naturalism and french impressionism.

The danish government decided Covid-19 pandemic lockdown of all Denmark from 11. march 2020.
That decision closed the exhibition.
Updated 7. december 2020:
The 4. november 2020 the exhibition reopened.
7. december 2020 the danish government have decided a new Covid-19 lockdown from 9. december 2020 and the exhibition is closed until 5. january 2021.
