Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) was inspired of the international concept “Functionalism”, which after 1. World War (1914-18) in 1920´dominated thinking of economy, social sciences and architecture:
– Function must be the overall choice of materials and design of buildings, bridges, factories, furnitures and interior facilities.
– Function, of latin function = to carry out, accomplish, execute,
-Function must be carried out from how all elements works together to create an overall impression.
The ideas of the modern architecture tendencies of functionalism came from Bauhaus School “Staatliches Bauhaus” founded 1919 in Weimar in Germany.
In 1923 Walter Gropius as principal of Bauhaus School 1919-27 introduced a rationalistic view of architecture and design productions in modern society.
In 1927 Bauhaus School got a new Department of Archtectuere with Hannes Meyer (1928-30) and Ludvig Mies van der Rohe (1930-33) as principal directors of the new Bauhaus School in Dessau (1925-32) and Berlin (1932-33). The Nazi Government since the 30. january 1933 closed the Bauhaus School in 1933.
The ideas of The Bauhaus School were introduced to The Nordic Countries Denmark, Sweden, Norway ands Finland on big exhibitions:
Bygge og Boligudstilling in Forum in Copenhagen 1929 with The Future House designed by architect Arne Jacobsen
and
Stockholmudstillingen 1930, Introduction of international modernism in architecture and design by swedish chief architect Gunnar Asplund and a later manifest accepter! in 1931.
In 1929 architect and designer Arne Jacobsen drawed and built his private house in “funkis” style and later expanded with a drawing office building and carport in Charlottenlund, 10 km north of Copenhagen close to belt of Øresund.

I hope you have enjoined my photo story of the splendid architecture created by danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen (1902-71).
I had a wonderful winter day with snow, sunshine and blue sky – and met old friends from my work on a social institution some 25 years ago.
