From 2012-19 Kgs. Nytorv (Kings New Square) is under construction of a new METRO station – one station out of 17 METRO – stations, witch will connects the entire Copenhagen City with an underground tunnel – length 16 km and price 21 billion danish crowns: “Copenhagen City Ring”.
Before the start of this Metro project in 2012 Kgs. Nytorv looks as on this photo from october 2010:
Kongens Nytorv, completed 1680-90 by King Christian 5th. Sculpture of King Christian 5th on horse. At left French Embassy. Thott Palace build by Admiral Niels Juul 1683-86. At right Charlottenborg Palace build 1672-87 by Fred. Gyldenløve (1638-1704) Governor of Norway, halfbrother of King Christan 5th and son of King Christian 4th with mistress Vibeke Kruse. Nyhavn Canal as neighbour to Kgs. Nytorv:
New Harbour, Nyhavn builded as a canal in 1671-73:
I continue my walk on the eastern/northern side of the canal, “the sunny side” through the houses and wharf (bolwark) of the canal King Christian 5 builded in 1671-73.
The canal is 400 meter long, 25 meter wide and 3 meter deep.
The king wanted to stimulate trade and to get a direct acces to the new central square Kongens Nytorv. From now on merchantships could do their loading and piloting close to the merchantyards- and houses in Nyhavn.
